Here at Annie’s Alphabet we learn through thoughtful play. Research shows children learn best while they are actively engaged in activities in which they are interested. This is why I am committed to the emergent literacy curriculum which focuses on the natural development of reading and writing skills through activity.

Babies know important things about language literally from the time they are born, and they learn a great deal about language before they ever say a word. Most of what they learn at the early age involves the sound system of language. Brain research has shown us that circuits in the brain are set up for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers to emerge naturally into speaking the language they hear spoken around them. I believe that reading and writing is done in the same sense and seeing language in its spoken and written forms at an early age will help promote the love of reading and writing. Today’s research shows us how reading and writing can develop naturally in a continuum from infancy onward as young children make sense of their world through playful exploration. It shows how children brains take in this information, extracting their own rules from it to help them learn. Given the proper tools and adult support, children can teach themselves early reading and early writing skills just as they teach themselves how to talk

That is why we provide opportunities and expose children to a variety of creative forms of language throughout the day for exploration using books, writing tools, print, songs, poems, stories, communication, language, and just playing around with words and letters.

We talk to, listen to, and encourage conversation through role modeling and we help children to use communication to work out their own problems through role modeling and positive guidance which gives them confidence and the opportunities to be successful.

I am constantly taking classes and learning new things to keep me updated on all the new information that is studied about brain development and the education of young children. I am a member of NAEYC and receive their yearly statements and new research material. I am currently working on getting state accredited which will show my dedication to the education of your children. We have created and maintain a developmentally appropriate environment for all children and encourage their families to participate in and enhance their children’s education.  By monitoring their progress, we will help them grow to their individualized ability and to make sure they are on track by the NAEYC standards.
